The purpose of this workshop is to address some of the larger questions involved with an evaluation of both the management and the performance of the Iraqi economy since 1980. As you well know this involves a combination of problems of data and of creating the necessary indices as well as of reconstruction the, usually fragmented, system of accounting and direction established by the Ba'thi leadership in the 1970s and continuing, in one form or another, until the present day.
