Noted legal scholars and practitioners Terry Rempel, a legal researcher on Palestinian refugees and a PhD Candidate at Exeter University, UK and Susan Akram, Clinical Professor at Boston University School of Law, presented their current research findings on the topic of a Rights Based Approach and Durable Solutions as they apply to Palestinian refugees at a public talk sponsored by the Outreach Center and the Middle East Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy School on Wednesday 28 October 2009. The talk presented a critical discussion of one of the five pillars outlined by the US government in the Oslo Process, Palestinian refugees, that need to be justly solved to end the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Durable Solutions and a Rights Based Approach are core concepts of international legal understandings for refugee solutions and their application to the situation of Palestinian refugees presents an important point for consideration as US led talks between Israel and the PLO are planned.
