The first class of the Egypt Forum 2009 took place on Saturday 28
February at CMES. It met to begin the academic portion of the Egypt

Professor Asani’s lecture, titled "Teaching Islam in Context", was the second in a series of five “Islam in
Context” lectures taking place over the 2007-08 academic year.
The Outreach Center, along with the Outreach Program of the Davis
Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, is announcng a new lecture
series to take place over the 2007-08 academic year.
On November 14th, The Outreach Centers of CMES and The Davis Center for
Russian and Eurasian Studies held the first of five lectures in their

The Outreach Center, in collaboration with
Primary Source, is presenting a late afternoon lecture series this fall entitled Contested Faiths: Islam and Muslims in the Contemporary World.

This August, The Outreach Center coordinated, in partnership with Primary Source in Watertown and the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities, a week-long intensive educators’ institute on Unmuddling the Modern Middle East.

On November 17 –18, The Outreach Center and the Middle East Outreach Council invited educators to a two-day conference on Learning about Islam and the Middle East through the Arts. The conference featured explorations of the visual, sound and literary arts of the classical and contemporary Middle East and Muslim societies in the belief that learning about these cultures through their artistic production opens up new avenues of understanding and appreciation.
