Amreeka Screening First Film of Middle East Region Film Series
Submitted by ben_williams on October 27, 2009 - 12:28pm.

The newly released Palestinian/American film Amreeka was screened on Friday 25 September as the first film of the Middle East Region Film Series sponsored by the Outreach Center and the Middle East Initiative.  The film charts the course of a Palestinian mother and teen-age son as they leave the West Bank and settle into life in Chicago.  Through their experiences the viewer comes to understand the complex emotions, cultural disconnections and political upheaval that the family experience.

The film screening took place at the Kendal Theatre in Cambridge, where 100 tickets were purchased and given away free of charge. We are grateful for the generous contributions of a private donor who covered the cost of 25% of the tickets.  Over 130 people wrote in for free tickets. For a trailer of the film click here.
