The Contextualizing Afghanistan workshop will look at the history and traditions of the Afghan people through lectures and discussion devoted to: Afghanistan’s early history; Afghanistan’s role in the Great Game; the Soviet Afghan War; the rise of the Taliban, and the brief history, to date, of Afghanistan as an independent Islamic Republic.

The workshop is designed to be a hands-on program aimed at meeting educators' content and curriculum development needs. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to work with professional peers and with the Outreach offices of both CMES and the Davis Center in order to set individual goals and outcomes for their participation and design new curriculum units and lesson plans.
