Part two of this five part series takes place on December 12th, 2007 and
is led by Professor Ali Asani, Professor of the Practice of Indo-Muslim Languages and Cultures, Harvard University.
"Studying
Islam in Context" gets at the heart of how to study and teach about
religion. Professor Asani will provide a range of ideas to
consider regarding how to study Islam in context. The cultural studies
perspective, one that emphasizes the examination of art, culture,
literature and other creative mediums, will be given special attention
as an empowering tool to teach about religion, and in this case, Islam.
Prof. Asani will utilize a range of examples from Africa and
South Asia to provide a comparative context to his discussion.
This event
will take place at the Harvard Center for
Government and International Studies South Building [1730 Cambridge
Street] in
Cambridge, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
