Professor Khalaf's work, though centrally located in the field of sociology, is profoundly inter-disciplinary (history, urbanism and urban planning, gender and sexuality, political violence and reconciliation, and anthropology). Though its focus is on the contemporary period, it is always mindful of history, and while deeply empirical (both in the quantitative but also ethnographic sense), it engages theory ranging from classical sociology to post-modern thought.
