DEVELOPMENT OF ISLAMIC FINANCE IN PAKISTAN

Dr. Shamshad Akhtar will discuss what current opportunities Pakistan offers in promoting Islamic finance to local and foreign banks, what obstacles the Islamic finance industry is facing currently in Pakistan, and what measures the government is taking to overcome these obstacles.  Her lecture will also cover how Pakistan is coordinating with other Middle Eastern countries in the development of Islamic finance and the viability of setting up a Central Shari'a Board similar to Bank Negara Malaysia, which provides a unified Shari'a supervision board for all Islamic banks in the country. Dr. Akhtar will also offer her thoughts on the future of the Islamic finance industry in Pakistan and new initiatives in Islamic finance.
