Law and Economic Development: Towards Constructive Engagement in the Middle East

This international conference organized by the Faculty of Law and Crimionolgy at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, brings together scholars from the region and beyond, and offers them a forum for scientific debate to explore these issues from an academic perspective in a spirit of mutual respect and respect for the right of all people to live in freedom and dignity in accordance with the principles of justice, self-determination and international law as enunciated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In particular ending the occupation and all hostile and military activity, and establishing a Palestinian state next to Israel living in peace alongside each other in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations is seen as extremely urgent.

Our programme includes papers from academics at the  American University Beirut, Arab-American University Jenin, Birzeit University, Catawba College (NC, USA), Edinburgh University, Harvard University, La Sapienza (Università di Roma), Oxford University, Tel Aviv University, Université de Genève, University of Damascus, University of East London, University of Kansas, School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London), Universiteit Gent, Universiteit Utrecht, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, World Bank and from independent researchers, practitioners and experts in Jordan, Palestine and Syria.
