"Political Islam and Al-Qaeda Five Years On"
A lecture by: Dr. Maha Azzam Chatham House (The Royal Institute of International Affairs), London

Fares Center Conference Room (Mugar 129)
Five years on, the challenge to Al-Qaeda is coming from Islamic forces themselves. However, Al-Qaeda's political message continues to resonate with many, although its tactics have attracted only the fringe. Al-Qaeda's main success has been to highlight the link between the West's policies in the Middle East, and terrorism. Despite the radicalisation of the street in Muslim states, there has nevertheless been increasing support for Islamist groups keen to use democratic channels.
