Islam in the West Graduate Student Workshop
Date: Tuesday, October 3, 2006
Time: 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM

The Islam in the West Graduate Student Workshop will be holding its first meeting for the 2006-2007 academic year on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at 7:00pm in the Project and Research Room at CMES (Room 210—the upstairs conference room). The meeting will be an opportunity for newcomers to learn about the Islam in the West project, and will be primarily concerned with the organization and content of future sessions. Dinner will be served at the event.

The IIW workshop is for graduate students at Harvard who are working on topics related to Islam in the West. Faculty from around the country are brought to Harvard, offering students an opportunity to have their research responded to by the top academics in their field.

The workshop serves as a student-focused complement to the interdisciplinary research program focusing on Islam in the West coordinated by Dr Jocelyne Cesari. One of the primary objectives of the student workshop on Islam in the West is to bring students together from a number of departments and schools to examine issues of common interest such as the consequences of 9/11 on Muslims in Europe and in the United States, transnational links of Muslims in the West, the transformation of religious authority in the West, and other topics from a genuinely interdisciplinary perspective.

We hope to see you Tuesday, October 3, 2006 in the Project and Research Room at CMES (Room 210—the upstairs conference room)

Sincerely,

Dan Glade and Sukidi Mulaydi
