Submitted by ben_williams on November 2, 2009 - 10:47am.

18 educators from a variety of schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts attended the first day of an innovative workshop called Using Art Objects to Teach About Religion and Sacred Space. The workshop is a collaboration of the Outreach Center at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies,  Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School,  Harvard University Art Museums, the Peabody Museum, the Program in Religious Studies and Education at the Harvard Divinity School, and the Queen Rania Teacher Academy in Amman, Jordan.  The workshops is composed of three parts, the first two of which are in-classroom and in-museum work at Harvard with the Sackler and Peabody Museums, and individual work by participants considering the place of art in their classroom teaching and learning.  Participants can earn one graduate teaching credit through Framingham State College for successful completion of workshop syllabus.
