Zoya is a member of the Revolutionary Association of Women in Afghanistan. After the death of her parents at the age of 14 by Muslim fundamentalists, she has strived to carry on her mother's work with the victims of sexual, physical and emotional abuse in Afghanistan. With the underground organization RAWA she has documented the crimes and put forward calls to address the injustices committed by all the forces in Afghanistan who have systemically used violence over the years to implement a self-serving political agenda, at the cost of destroying most of the infrastructure and civil society of the country. Her story is documented in the book Zoya's Story: an Afghan woman's struggle for Freedom.

Marc Herold is a Professor of Economics and Women's Studies at the Whittemore School of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire. He has written numerous articles on the US war on Afghanistan and kept a comprehensive dossier on the day-to-day chronicles of the war.
