Egypt Forum 2009 Concludes With Innovative Classroom Plans
Submitted by ben_williams on September 22, 2009 - 9:54am.
The Egypt Forum 2009 program, run by the Outreach Center,  held its final class for the 2009 year on Saturday 19 September. The 10 educators who were part of the program came from diverse communities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  They are now  back in the classroom and are developing new lesson plans and programs that take the learning and experiences they gained during the previous eight months and apply them to the diverse settings of their classrooms. Some of the programs that are being developed include: An interactive blog, a joint journalism program with an Egyptian school, a new course segment on Middle East Region Literature with a focus on Egypt,   a hands-on building project for middle schoolers on the Pyramids of Giza, an Egypt photo gallery, creating a joint class book on Egypt based on geography standards and running a Model United Nations class with a focus on representing countries from the Middle East region including Egypt.

The Egypt Forum is a 12 month program of intensive learning, reflection and application to the classroom that is open to advanced K-12 teachers. Applications are available in November 2009 for the 2010 year from the CMESOC website. The program works in three parts: Pre-travel class meetings at Harvard; travel to Egypt in April and post-travel class meeting during the summer and early fall, followed by implementation of new programs and projects in participants' classrooms and communities.  For more information on the Egypt Forum contact cmesoc@fas.harvard.edu.
