Posting Events to the Mideast List

The Mideast List is meant to serve as a publicity mechanism for events, announcements, and job/internship opportunities for our list subscribers. We post all Middle East-related events including CMES events, Harvard events, and events taking place in the greater Boston area, as well as postings about conferences and jobs around the world. If you would like to post an announcements to the Mideast list, please send an email to mideast-list@lists.fas.harvard.edu adhering to the standards below.

Guidelines:
  • Each event announcement should have the following information: Event start and end time, location, speaker(s), a brief description of event, and contact info for further information. If an announcement could cause confusion to recipients because of missing information, it will be rejected by the list manager.
  • Make the subject line as descriptive as possible, including date and time of your event. Your event will be posted directly to the listserve, so do not use "please post!" or "announcement for mideast list" as a subject line. We are only able to approve or deny postings and have no way of changing what is submitted.

  • Please keep in mind that many people subscribe to the mideast list as a digest. Digest recipients do not receive attachments, and HTML coding is removed from text. All the necessary information should be included in the plain text in the body of your email so that it is seen by all recipients.
  • If a first-time announcement is sent to the list less than 24 hours before an event, it may be rejected at the discretion of the list manager.
  • Timing of your posting during the summer: Please note that the listserv is checked less frequently during the summer months (approximately twice a week). Please account for this when considering the timing of your announcement. Timing of your posting during the academic year: The list is checked daily during the academic year. It is not unusual for your posting lag time to take several hours up to a full business day. Please account for this when considering the timing of your announcement.
  • If you wish to send instructions concerning the announcement, please send them by separate cover with the subject line: "INSTRUCTIONS for posting event such and such".
