Welcome, CMES Alumni!

The Center for Middle Eastern Studies has an international community of over 700 alumni and friends who play an important part in the life and work of the Center. Graduates of our programs go on to achieve distinction in all fields of endeavor, teaching at major universities in the United States and abroad, or holding leadership positions in government, business, the arts, and media. All our alumni are important to us and have a contribution to make towards continuing the Center’s purpose of promoting a better understanding of the Middle East, both in the university and in the world at large.

CMES works hard to keep in touch with alumni and to foster a continuing relationship through the following avenues:

e-cmes: An occasional electronic magazine about the Center’s life and that of its alumni, with contributions on a variety of subjects focused on the Middle East. We distribute e-cmes news and events via our alumni mailing list. We encourage alumni to stay involved by contributing to e-cmes. See the guidelines for submissions to the e-cmes Alumni Corner for more information.

Alumni Directory: We encourage alumni to send us updated contact information and join the pool of careeer advice contacts by emailing CMES Events and Alumni Relations Coordinator Kristin Brown. It is also advisable that alumni update their information on the Harvard Alumni Association website.

CMES Alumni Facebook Page:  To help maintain post-graduation connections with CMES and other alumni, we have created a Facebook page specifically for our alumni. RSS feeds from the CMES website allow alumni to receive current news, events, and job announcements.

Mideast List: The Mideast List is a publicity mechanism for events, announcements, and job/internship opportunities with a Middle East focus. All subscribers can post and receive emails about events (including CMES events, Harvard events, and events taking place in the greater Boston area), as well as postings about conferences and jobs around the world. Vist the Mideast List subscription page to sign up for the mailing list.

The CMES alumni webpage and directory were created in 2003 on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Center. The 50th Anniversary was a proud moment that allowed us to remember our illustrious founders, celebrate our alumni, and to consider new directions and new initiatives for the Center in the 21st century. Since then, we have worked to add more alumni to our network and offer resources to alumni. For the Center to continue to flourish, we appreciate the advice and support of our alumni.

Supporting the center: CMES has been able to pursue its mission thanks to the generosity of individuals and organizations who have, over the years, shared its vision for improving our understanding of the Middle East. Interested individuals may support the Center with tax-deductible contributions of any size by contacting Kristin Brown.
